JUNIOR OLYMPIC VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS!

We were extremely fortunate to have had 7 of our varsity volleyball players play "Club/Junior Olympic" Volleyball last year. It is without a doubt, that their skill level improved because of this added experience. If you would like to continue playing volleyball, there are opportunities out there for you. There are two programs in the area that have tryouts coming right up. The NH Seacoast Volleyball Program and the Great Bay Program. Our seven varsity players played for Seacoast last year. Mrs. Peabody is also on the Board of Directors for the Seacoast Program. Coach Sasien is involved in the Great Bay Program. Both are wonderful programs. Don't be nervous about the skill level. At the 12 and under level, they accommodate everyone. At the 14 and under level, the players are divided according to skill level.
Once you are placed on a team, 99% of the practices are only on Sunday's. There are 5 tournaments for the 12U teams. If you make an Elite team, there could be a few more tournaments...AND after basketball season, a mid-week practice is usually added.
I will not lie, it does cost a bit of $$ to play on these teams. The cost for Seacoast includes uniforms, sneakers,warm-ups, etc... If you make an Elite team, the cost of hotel rooms and airfare is also included in the price. If you can relate it to a summer camp.......which usually cost approximately $500 for a one week over-night, it is worth the cost to play JO Volleyball.
Below is the information regarding the Junior Olympic Tryouts in the area:

Seacoast JO Tryouts will be:

14U: 10:30-12:30

Some Varsity Pics

Here are some varsity pics. If anyone from the JV team has some pictures that they'd like to email me, I'd be happy to post them!!

Clinic For Grades 1-4!

Coach Brodeaur, the Oyster River Girl's Varsity Coach and our very own Coach Sasien helped our little girls with their volleyball skills today. They learned how to position their body when passing the ball, how to hold their wrists, hands and arms when passing the ball, how to serve and how to hit!! Everyone was excited and enthusiastic.....what a great clinic! Next Saturday, the clinic will be at Dover High School with Coach Harte!! We are so appreciative of these local coaches for helping out our little girls! See you next weekend!

SO FAR, SO GOOD!

Both the JV and Varsity teams are progressing VERY nicely. It is amazing how much our JV team has improved over last year! What a difference a year makes!! Coach Lombardo is doing a great job teaching these young girls the game of volleyball. Their serving is very impressive! Serves that barely went over the net last year are like rockets shooting at incredible speeds this year! Great job, girls!
The varsity team is also on the road to excellence! Coach Sasien is holding them to high expectations and their play is much better for it! Barrington is one of the better teams in the league, for sure.

BTW.....I know that the school is hoping to put volleyball in the budget for next year....YIPPEE!!!! HOWEVER, that doesn't mean we won't necessarily have a Rec team, too. Even if the school has a varsity team, we're not sure they plan on having a JV team. It is still all up in the air, so for those of you that are from Nottingham or Strafford.....no worries, yet.

For those girl's that DID NOT make a team, please know that you can STILL BE PART OF A TEAM. We are in need of managers for the varsity and JV teams. Please email one of the coaches if you're interested. Making "Cuts" is extremely difficult. For those of you that didn't make a team, PLEASE TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR!! We have 11 players leaving next year and your chances of making the team will definitely be better. If at first you don't succeed, try try again!!! Also, for those of you in 5th grade, look at the volleyball schedule and make note of the 3 clinics that are planned.....hope to see you there!!

Please check your schedule/calendar for what time your team has practice. Practices are NOT optional. If you can't make one, your coach must be notified.

If you don’t see your name on one of the lists and would still like to be part of the volleyball program, we are in need of team managers. Managers may participate in practices, but you may also have additional duties while there (set up stations, clock, help with equipment, etc…). During games, managers have specific duties (game clock, statistics, help set up chairs, etc…). As a manager, you are part of the team and will be required to participate in practices and games unless the coach approves your absence. Please email one of the coaches below to express your interest.

For those of you that make the Varsity and JV teams, please make sure you have an updated schedule.
Please send a "test" email to: barringtonvolleyball@yahoo.com so we can double-check to make sure we have all the correct email addresses.

Tryouts---Coaching Staff

Tryouts for the Barrington Recreation Volleyball teams are Sept. 1st and 2nd, from 3:30-5:30. Teams will be posted on the Barrington Volleyball Blog site.

I am excited to inform you that we have a FABULOUS coach for the varsity girl's this year! Cheryl Peabody is stepping aside and concentrating on running the entire program (grs. 1-8). We will be having some pee wee clinics on a few Saturdays, a 4th grade team, our JV team, as well as our varsity team. Jamie Sasien will be taking over the varsity coaching duties. She has high school coaching experience, middle school coaching experience and junior olympic coaching experience!! WOW!! We are incredibly fortunate to have someone with her background and knowledge. It is going to be very exciting to watch this year's team!!!! We have no doubt that Jamie will take this team to the next level (we're hoping to bring home a banner!!!:)

We also have a new JV coach this year, too! Annette Lombardo, a familiar face :-), will be our new JV coach! We are confident that she will utilize the skills she used playing in college to help guide our young athletes. What a fabulous coaching staff!!

Karen Riley and Cheryl Peabody will continue to help out both teams.

Sooooo.....tell one and all about tryouts!!! SPREAD THE WORD!!! It is going to be an exciting and highly successful season.

Please note, these teams are "All-Star/Travel Teams" and will travel to local middle schools for competition. VERY EXCITING!!!

Update on Volleyball

I know it has been awhile since my last post, but thought I should write a bit to catch up.

Both our JV and Varsity Recreation teams were very successful in the Fall. Our JV team was made up of primarily 5th and 6th graders, but were fortunate to have some key returning players to help with leadership and skill development.
Our Varsity team was truly one of the better teams in the league and the immediate area. Made up of mostly 7th graders, they will continue to do quite well next season.

We do hope to have open gyms and clinics in the Spring and Summer. We hope that more girls get involved in the program.

I would like to take a moment to mention the girls that are continuing to play volleyball through the NH Seacoast Junior Olympic Program. Playing on the Elite 14U team are Megan Rouillard, Deb Peabody and Abby Ahern. Their team just finished 3rd in the Gold Division in the Mizuno Winterfest Tournament. This tournament includes teams from New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, etc...
We also have girls playing on another 14U team for the NH Seacoast Junior Olympic Program. This team will also be incredibly competitive. Girls on this team are Lacey Locke and Lauren Jones. We have three other players involved on a third 14U team. They are Hannah Mausteller, Kali Sabo and Katie Tomaszewski. These two teams will have their first tournament in March. We have no doubt that they will do extremely well.
Playing for the NH Seacoast Junior Olympic Program for the 12U teams are: Katie Dyer, Caroline Magee, Kylee West and Kayla Whitcher. I am anxious for these girls to "Show off their skills" at their first tournament, which is also in March.

I'll post some pictures of the Mizuno tournament that a few of our players participated in this past weekend.
GO BARRINGTON VOLLEYBALL!!
